In order for ashuris to live peacefully alongside humans, the god of death Tetru cast a spell over humanity, making them unable to see or feel the traits of an ashuri. This includes their animal traits, their flames & Syoran, and their weapon, allowing them to masquerade as a normal human. However, ashuris have the option to remove this glamour if they want to expose their true form to a human they trust. Centuries have passed since the war between humans and ashuris, and because all ashuris disappeared from the earth for so long while serving out their punishment in the underworld, most humans stopped believing that ashuris ever existed.
In rare cases, there are some humans who are able to sense or even completely see an ashuri's true form. These humans possess strong spiritual powers that grants them this sight. However, non-seeing humans will often meet their claims of seeing ashuris with disbelief, and dismiss it as one might dismiss the belief that ghosts are real. But some humans do truly believe in ashuris, whether they can see them or not, and that has allowed some humans to develop special relationships with ashuris.
Ashuris have even fallen in love with humans who cannot see their true form. Either way, a human and ashuri in a romantic relationship has always been a taboo among ashuris, as there's a chance that offspring they produce could inherit the ashuri Curse. Although Tetru initially forbade such relations between humans and ashuris, he eventually allowed it as long as ashuris followed a set of conditions: the ashuri must tell their human partner about the curse and the history of their species before creating a family. If the human is unable to handle the things they heard about ashuris, or rejects the ashuri after hearing about their kind, they are obligated to erase their partner's memories by using their magic.
Due to the curse, it is extremely difficult for an average ashuri to kill a human. Ashuris are able to harm humans so long as they do not have any intention of killing them. However, even thinking about killing a human with serious intent will cause the curse mark to start burning, and touching a human with intent to kill them will completely paralyze them, rendering them unable to move. In rare cases, ashuris are able to resist the paralysis long enough to cause actual harm or even death to a human - due to a developed immunity to the curse's effects, or by use of blood magic - but doing so will come with dire consequences. They will be constantly hunted by Executioners and will have a much harder time living "normally" anymore. Upon being captured by Executioners, they will not be granted a second chance in the underworld - they will immediately die and cease to exist.
Humans, on the other hand, can freely harm ashuris. Ashuris can be hurt by any normal human weapon. However, because they do not have most vital organs that a human does, they will only bleed and experience pain but cannot be killed by mere stab or gunshot wounds like a human could. In the case of being shot, the bullets will enter the ashuri's body but will eventually pop out once they're able to start self-healing. In general, humans are incapable of actually killing ashuris, even if they could see their Syoran. Humans do not have the soul strength required to crush and possess a Syoran.
